Thuringia Heritage Days: Historical places with real gusto

“Specialties from historic times”  is the motto of Thuringias Heritage Days this year.

Beeing renowned for its culinary and cultural delights, visitors can follow their senses in the former breweries and malt houses. Stroll through stately hunting lodges and their kitchens and dining rooms. Historic stone ovens will emit fresh bread smell, and traditional coffee shops and hotels will invite you to a stop.

Starting on 13 September 2009,  around 500 monuments will open their doors countrywide, including many that are  inaccessible on regular days. In addition, many festivals and music will entertain all visitors with traditional german and thuringian customs.  The Official season opener for this years Heritage Days will be on September 12th  at Schloss Friedenstein in Gotha.

Thuringia Tourism recorded significant increases

The Thuringian accommodation establishments have recorded significant increases in April. As the National Statistical Office announced on Tuesday, the number of overnight stays increased – comparing to last year`s April – by 10.6 percent to 707 000. Also, the number of visitors increased. Here, the statisticians calculated a rise of 5.1 percent to 254 000.

The exceptionally good results in the travel sector of the Thuringian Forest can be considered as a crucial reason for this positive development. Here, the number of visitors increased by 11.7 percent and the number of overnight stays by 17.5 percent.

Overall, the accommodation establishments in Thuringia can look back on  a successful winter season (November to April). Both arrivals and overnight stays increased in comparison with the corresponding prior-year period by 2.1 percent to 1.3 million and 3.6 million.
